National Finals - Daily Results

Day 1:

These are the kids that competed and their standings in their event after the first full day of competition. There are 3 full days of competition in the first go round, so there is still a long way to go, but the team is very pleased with the results from Day 1.

Bub Bowman finished 3rd for his performance and 8th for the day with a 12.807 second tie down roping run.

Caleb Wedemeyer and Maria Thornton finished 23rd for the day with a 21.953 second team roping run.

Brianna Wheeler finished 28th for the day with a 11.36 second goat tying run.

Maria Thornton finished 36th for the day with a 14.16 second goat tying run.

Jessica Colby finished 40th for the day with a 18.864 second barrel racing run.

Brittany Molden finished 55th for the day with a 28.445 second barrel racing run.

A few of our team members had bad luck in their first go resulting in a no time or no score. Here they are with a brief description as to what type of bad luck they experienced:

Kasey Hodges - Goat Tying - Kasey had a quick time going on her run, but when the lead rope from the goat became tangled in her tie, the goat was able to kick free within the 6 second time.

Paul Myers - Bull Riding - Paul had the potential for a strong ride with a good bull, but the bulls horn hung up in the chute causing Paul a bad run out of the gate causing the bull to throw him back and off balance.

Emily Mulcahey - Barrel Racing - Emily's horse not only missed the first barrel, but actually knocked the barrel and jumped it. If it hadn't been for that mishap, Emily would have had a strong fast finish.

Justin Musselman - Steer Wrestling - Justin had a little tough luck in timing with his steer out of the chute. This put him behind, and he was unable to catch the steer before reaching the end of the arena.

Shelby Sipe - Break Away - Shelby also had a little tough luck in timing with her calf out of the chute. She and her horse worked hard to catch up, putting Shelby in place for a long throw, but her loop just didn't make it there.

Although these kids had a rough run in their first go, the team is confident they will come back strong in the second go and earn some substantial points for the team.

»NOTE: Due to technical difficulties, we were unable to supply daily results on the remaining days' events. However, here are overviews of how our participants fared in other events during the finals:

Rifle Team - Tanner Lewis and Paul Myers competed on behalf of the IHSRA and placed 10th in the Rifle Shooting competition.

Volleyball Team - The IHSRA volleyball team lost in their first round of competition, but had a great time playing and are looking forward to coming back stronger next year.

Basketball Team - Ty Brown, Bub Bowman, and Caleb Wedemeyer represented the IHSRA's boys basketball team. They won the first two rounds of basketball (first round beat British Columbia, and second round team forfeited to us), but lost in overtime during the third round to Louisianna (they had us beat on endurance with 5 players vs. our 3). We also had a girls team with Jerica Stern, Elaine Colter, and Brianna Wheeler (special thanks to Jerica for putting this team together). They unfortunately lost during the first round, but gave the other team a tough time!!

Queen Contest - We have not yet received all the final results and standings on this competition, but those that attended the competitions were extremely impressed and very proud that Ashton was our Queen and represented us so well.
