If you have not already turned in your rsvp to Lisa yet, please do so asap. I think we have well over 90% attending, which is great, but we really need everyone to attend! While it is not mandatory to attend this is the most important meeting we have during the year. This year especially we have almost every board position open for re-election. While you may not be interested in holding a position, I am sure you care about the future of the IHSRA and who fills those positions. Since our student membership has been steady with around 50 contestants, we really need a higher percentage of our parents involved in making this association all it can be. Wether you have a knack for fundraising, putting on barrel races or ropings, knowing the dynamics of putting on a rodeo or merely knowing how to cook a breakfast, we could use your help.
See you there, Doug

Hi All, Posted January 25, 2012
We are going to wait until after the mid winter meeting and cowboy prom before we schedule a trip to Fair Oaks Farms. Stayed tuned on that.
PBR Built Ford Tough Invitational at Bankers Life Fieldhouse is April 14 and 15. This is the weekend of the Hoosier Horse Fair but you may be able to schedule your janitorial shift around it if you want to go. Click on the link for discount ticket info.

Pampered Chef fundraiser for the Scholarship Fund!
Orders made for Pampered Chef products will be delivered to midwinter meeting by Bethellen George. See instructions below for ordering:
On the Pampered Chef website (www.pamperedchef.com), click on “shop online”. Find the products you would like to order, click on them, write down the #of the item, what the item is, how much the item costs, and email this information to lorrainejohnson67@gmail.com. Please state that this is for the IHSRA scholarship fundraiser. Please send check or money order (postmarked no later than Feb 4) payable to Lorraine Johnson. The address is 1125 Helena Dr, Lebanon, IN 46052. Shipping and handling is $4.75 and sales tax is 7%. Sales tax is to be figured AFTER you add shipping and handling to the cost of the items. This is the best way to appreciate more profit for the IHSRA. (We will get a better shipping rate if we pay by check or money order.)
Example: You want the 9” pie plate: The order would read #1511, 9” pie plate.
$9.50 (cost of item) +$4.75 (shipping & handling) =$14.25 + 7% tax=$15.25
The IHSRA will receive 25% of sales which will go into the scholarship fund!

The board met this past Sunday and worked through the spring schedule and it is now posted. You will notice a few changes. I pretty sure there will be no additions to it other than cutting dates. Usually no changes or additions are made after the mid winter meeting.
Remember to send your rsvp to Lisa for the dinner by February 1st. Also your grade cards as well as sponsorships are due at mid winter. You will not be able to rodeo at New Castle or after if those two items are not taken care of.
We are working on scheduling a trip to Fair Oaks Farms (www.fofarms.com) some Saturday before the start of the season. These folks have been generous enough to sponsor our state finals the past two years and if you have never visited this working dairy, it is a very interesting tour. Right now I am looking at February 4th but I want to see how many are interested and if that date will work. They will give us the school rate for admission ($4 per person). Send me a quick e-mail at ihsrapres@gmail.com if you would like to tour the dairy and if the date works for you. Family or friends are more than welcome to attend too. Given we are all over the state, we will just meet there or some of us can carpool.
If you or you know someone that would be a qualified person to sit on our Indiana Rodeo Scholarship Board please let me know. There would be six people needed Good qualifications would be a mix of people that some may know finances and investments, some may be good at hosting or organizing fundraising events such as team ropings or barrel races and some may have just had children that have been through the whole college experience. They would be looking at a two year term but would only meet a couple of times a year and could probably conduct most of their business via internet. While a IHSRA board position may not interest you, these positions may. Additionally having an IHSRA membership right now is not a prerequisite. Let me know.
Lastly, a big THANK YOU to Jenni Lepley for putting together our newsletters. She has done an excellent job putting these together, especially when getting info from all of us is like pulling teeth sometimes. Jenni has decided to retire from the position so if anyone has writing talents that they would like to offer to the cause let us know. Again a big thanks Jenni from all of us.

I have posted the entry forms on the schedule page for the Tennessee Challenge. Indiana does not accept this rodeo for points due to hardships it may cause to families since the drive is so long. However you may enter and compete for no points and jackpot money. It is a good rodeo, good facility and good experience. I would encourage all to go if you can. Several college coaches usually attend this rodeo, so if you are a senior and are talking with a college that offers rodeo, you may seriously consider attending and competing. Doug

I hope everyone had a great holiday and hopefully the new year has started off well. We got D.j. back to college and settled in however his mare is going to stay in Indiana for a while longer. Going without food or water that long sure didn't do her an favors. She is putting on weight though and eating everything we've put in front of her which is surprising because she is the picky one. Hopefully she will be back to where she was weight wise soon. Coming up next Friday, Jan 13th, there is a new season of CMT's Sweet Home Alabama. Shaun Smith (this is one of the other five students that had their horse stolen at SAU and his horse, Credit Card, was the one that was killed) will be on the show as one of the competing bachelors.
Anyway, coming up February 18th is our MidWinter Meeting and Cowboy Prom. It will be at the Bartholemew County Fairgrounds (where the Columbus rodeo was and same as last year). I have attached a reservation form on the schedule page that needs to be returned to LISA by February 1st so we can let the caterer know the number of meals. Meals will be $7.00 for members and $10.50 for non-members (this is also the same as last year) and as an FYI your check to cover the meals won't be deposited until after the meeting. The meals cost $10.50 to the association however the association picks up $3.50 of the members meal.
Additionally, at the Mid Winter Meeting will be the all important adult officer elections. All adult officer positions other than the National Director and the Student Advisor are up for re-election. Please give some serious thought to these elections and if you would be interested in running for a position or know of a member that you think would do a good job and work well with those that are elected. We tend to kind of rush through these elections with not too many people interested in holding office so please think hard on this.
Also we will have our scholarship auction to raise dollars for the scholarship fund. This is usually a pretty fun time for the adults while the students are having their dance. Bring any items you would like to donate to the cause. We usually have a pretty good turnout of items and that is great. The money goes to a good cause.
Hoosier Horse Fair and Expo.....yep, that is coming up soon. Jay will have the sign up sheets at MidWinter for every member (adult and student) to sign up for janitorial duty. Shifts will probably be about the same as far as duration goes. Please, Please, Please, get signed up while you are there at the meeting. It makes life for Jay much easier.
The board will be meeting on Jan 15 and then again during the afternoon at midwinter to work on finalizing the spring schedule. Looks like at this point we will not be going to Liberty due to a date snafu with new management of the horse arena there at Liberty and it looks like we will be doing a joint rodeo the first weekend of May at Edinburg. Stay tuned as those items are finalized.
Jay and Amii Davis are working hard at obtaining sponsors for the New Castle rodeo. If you are from that area of the state and can assist them in soliciting for sponsorship please contact them. Or if you know someone that would be interested in being a sponsor for that rodeo (or any others) let us know.
That's all for now, Thanks Doug
